If you haven't heard, Uganda is proposing a new bill that will not only prosecute gays (homosexuality is a crime in Uganda) but will also make anyone tested positive for HIV punishable by death! "Human-rights groups, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have condemned the bill. They say it is a product of a campaign by evangelical churches and anti-gay groups that has led to death threats and physical assaults against Ugandans suspected of being gay."
Caleb's Hope, along with countless other grassroots NGOs, works in Northern Uganda with women and children living with HIV/AIDS. This new bill could greatly impact the lives of those we are trying to assist. Furthermore, this is a violation of our basic human rights.
You can find out more
here, and the Stephen Lewis Foundation has a
detailed write-up.
We're urging all supporters of Caleb's Hope, and anyone who supports human rights to
sign the petition and to please spread the word!
